"To sing is to pray twice"

St Augustine of Hippo

Parish of Mater Christi Liturgical Music

At the parish of Mater Christi, we strive to create a beautiful environment of prayer through excellence in music. It is an honor and a blessing to be able to sing for God at each Mass, and we would encourage you to think about serving with your musical talents. Both instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome; if you or your child are interested in joining a choir, or if you would like to schedule an audition, contact the Director of Music, Justine Rodriguez, at justine.rodriguez@mcalbany.org.

Ensembles:

Children's Choir (ages 8-12)

The children's choir focuses on pitch, tone, and technique, with an emphasis on growing each child as a strong individual singer. The hymns and pieces are unison, with occasional two-part harmony.

The children's choir meets every Thursday from 4:00-4:50pm (from the first week of September through Easter).

Youth Choir (ages 13 and up)

In the youth choir, each vocalist continues learning how to sight read music, and continues working on tone and technique. There is an emphasis on singing in harmony, as well as the opportunity to learn to be a solo cantor.

The youth choir meets every Thursday from 5:00-5:50pm (from the first week of September through Easter).

Adult Choir

The Adult choir sings for all the major holidays including Christmas Eve (8pm Vigil), Holy Thursday, Good Friday service, and Easter Vigil.

The choir meets on Thursdays from 6:30-7:30pm (beginning the first week of September through Christmas Eve, and again starting the third week of January through the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ).

Instrumentalists are welcome to audition to participate at Mass as well.
